Student Rights has just been informed that the motion proposed by the Queen Mary Stop the War Coalition to twin Queen Mary with the Islamic University of Gaza has now passed.
Passed on Tuesday 8th December at a Student Council meeting the University follows LSE’s decision to twin with the same controversial University. The University itself has been accused of being a base for Hamas however the motion argues to support the largest university in Palestine and the right to education. The Student Council is made up from 36 elected students who represent the Queen Mary SU, which is part of a new representative structure at the University due to the unattended UGMs.
This comes after the Hizb ut-Tahrir speaker event on Queen Mary campus was cancelled.
