Abu Usamah to speak at Queen Mary University

Update: Edited to remove comment wrongly attributed to Abu Usamah.

usamahAbu Usamah of Undercover Mosque fame is rearing his homophobic head once again.  The man, best known for his comment, "If I were to call homosexuals perverted, dirty, filthy dogs who should be murdered, that's my freedom of speech, isn't it?" is due to speak to the Queen Mary Islamic Society tomorrow at lunchtime.

UPDATE: Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell has issued the following statement: “It is appalling that Queen Mary University is hosting the fundamentalist hate preacher, Abu Usamah. He endorses the murder of gay people and of Muslims who give up their faith. He also encourages the beating of little girls who refuse to wear the hijab,” said human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell. “The university would never allow a lecture by a white supremacist who used racist abuse and advocated the murder of black people. Why the double standards?” queried Mr Tatchell.

Previous complaints by Peter Tatchell and Student Rights can be found here and here. The topic of the talk is, "the Wives of the Prophet". If Usamah's past form is anything to go by, we can expect a diatribe in line with the following quotes by him:

1. “Do you practice homosexuality with men? Take that homosexual man ….and throw him off the mountain….?”

2. Usamah has described women as 'deficient' and 'incomplete'.

3. He's stated that non-Muslims are 'pathological liars' and that 'Jews and Christians are enemies to Muslims'.

Raheem Kassam, Director of Student Rights has stated, "Once again we're witness to the travesty that is campus extremism.  Usamah was banned from the University College London for his abhorrent views.  These speakers preach hatred, violence and divisive rhetoric to impressionable students.  It's simply not on."

While Usamah has claimed that Channel 4 have misreported his quotes,Ofcom, the independent regulator for the UK communications industries has rejected these claims.

Usamah is also reported to have said the following:

4. Osama Bin Laden is "better than a million George Bushes and a thousand Tony Blairs"

5. No one loves the kuffaar (non-believer), not a single person loves the kuffaar. We hate the kuffaar."

Student Rights have registered their concern with Queen Mary University as of Jan 17th.
