Oxford student under fire for "slaughter the Jews" heckle

Israel's Deputy foreign minister, Danny Ayalon visited the Oxford Union on Monday night, with the occasion turning sour when a student and member of the Union shouted "Itbach Al-Yahud" [slaughter the Jews] at him.

Ayalon is said to be considering legal action against the protestor. Mr. Ayalon described the heckle as "tantamount to a call for genocide" and suffered further abuse during the evening as another protester carrying a Palestinian flag walked towards the minister before security personnel intervened.

Raheem Kassam, National Director for Student Rights has commented, "The abuse Mr. Ayalon encountered went far beyond exercising free speech.  It was, as stated, a call for genocide which is diabolical and has no place on university campuses."

The Oxford Union commented that "Whilst the vast majority of the audience behaved in an orderly and responsible fashion, some members continually interrupted the speech, and one individual in particular appears to have made a directly anti-Semitic remark".
